Skål International Japan – National Committee Meeting 28th. & 29th. February 2010 at The Disneyland Hotel

President’s Address

The President welcomed the Committee, thanked Tokyo Club President Kobayashi and the Tokyo Club for hosting the event and gave special mention and thanks to Club Secretary/Treasurer Inoue and the organizing committee for the excellent arrangements, in particular Skålleague Besford’s efforts to secure the magic of Disneyland for our delegates and their families.

2009 in review

Financial and economic meltdown has affected the tourism and travel industry nationally, regionally and globally. Despite the recessionary impact on membership, active recruiting efforts by the Clubs has helped to keep total membership in relative check.

He noted that the perennial question remained how to broaden our membership base across all membership categories: active, life, associate & young Skål, as well as form new clubs.

The following were the major events attended on behalf of the National Committee:

15th Mar 2009 National Congress, Swissotel Nankai Osaka 14th May 2009 Skål membership development meeting, ANA Crowne Plaza Narita 21st. 24th May 2009 Asia Congress, Incheon Seoul 16th. Nov 2009 Osaka monthly meeting, Sheraton Miyako Osaka

9th. Feb 2010 Nagoya monthly meeting, Nagoya Kanko Hotel The President indicated he had reflected about the role of National President during his term and that he would propose a resolution concerning its future at this meeting.

He thanked the National committee and particularly Mr. Joseph Matsuo for their support and assistance during his term. He was honored to have served Skål in this capacity and looked forward to remaining an active member of Skål International Tokyo. Tony Virili indicated he had reflected carefully about the role of National President during his term and as communicated to the National Committee last January, stated that he would propose a resolution concerning its future at this meeting.
